Do you ever read about successful people who have a vision for their lives, and feel a little envious?
Many people think that having that clarity is the result of having a fortuitous set of circumstances that led you to a clear purpose in life. Like a lightning bolt comes down from above and plants your life’s mission in your head.
This is a great way to think if you want to stay mired in confusion. Your brain likes to be a little bit confused, because the logical choice in confusion is to stay exactly where you are at, waiting for the signs that tell you where to go next. Your brain loves to stay safe in your current, comfortable place. If you believe that you will move forward and identify your purpose and your goals when your mission is revealed to you, you can almost guarantee that you will be waiting for a long time. Maybe forever.
Confusion is comfort. Confusion is fear of making the wrong choice. Confusion is your default setting – and you can decide to overcome it.
The best way out of confusion is to take action. Any action. It might be perfect, it might not be perfect. But that action and the the energy of deciding will propel you forward. It will give you feedback on which path to choose. It will be progress. Confusion is quicksand that keeps you in one place, eventually becoming so difficult to escape that you might not even try.
What is the one thing that you can do today that will move you closer to your goal? No matter how small, take an action. Make a decision. Actively fight against the inertia. Confusion is a choice – but you can choose differently. Choose to feel confident, motivated, courageous, determined, curious…. You can even choose to continue to be confused, AND you can still move forward – with a little trust in your ability to seek out your best life.
